Lot 1494
ASIA MINOR. Uncertain. Tessera (Lead, 16 mm, 2.95 g, 5 h), anonymous, 2nd-3rd centuries. KⲰBENTOV Jupiter seated left, holding Victory in his right hand and scepter in his left. Rev. Minerva standing front, head to left, holding patera over altar with her right hand and leaning heft left hand on shield set on ground; spear leaning against her left arm. Apparently unpublished. Good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The inscription on the obverse may be interpreted as the Greek transliteration of the Latin term 'conventus,' presented in its genitive form. This term refers to any gathering of men convened for a specific purpose. Given the numerous Eastern tesserae that mention councils, our tessera likely signifies one of these assemblies.
